How to I change the file format on my video?

I got a flip for Christmas yesterday, and I just wanted to put a quick clip on youtube to test it out. When I tried uploading it, it said incorrect file format, or something like that. I right clicked my video clip, and looked in properties. There is no way to change the file format. How can I change it?
